UK Skilled Worker Visa

The Skilled Worker visa allows foreign nationals to come to the UK to work for an approved sponsorin an eligible role. This is the main work visa for non-UK nationals. It enables employers/ companies to sponsor non-UK nationals to work in the UK. There is no cap on the number of people who can enter the UK on this route. The UK Skilled Worker visa is granted for up to five years, after which they may become eligible to apply for an Indefinite Leave to Remain /Settlement route. The rules and requirements for the Skilled Worker visa route are set out in Appendix Skilled Worker.

The applicant will need to attain 70 points to be eligible for a Skilled Worker visa. The applicable 70 points threshold is made up of 50 points for mandatory / non-tradeable criteria ( i.e. sponsorship, job at an appropriate skill level and English language at Level B1) and 20 points for tradeable criteria.

UK Skilled Worker Visa Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be aged 18 or over on the date of application.
  • You must provide valid TB certificate if required when applying for entry clearance as a Skilled Worker.
  • You must have a valid Certificate of Sponsorship issued by an employer not more than 3 months before the date of your Skilled Worker application.
  • You must show that you are being sponsored to undertake a genuine vacancy.
  • Your employer must have paid Immigration Skills Charge unless exemption applies.
  • Your job must be at an appropriate skill level. The Home Office sets out eligible jobs in Appendix Skilled Occupationsand Appendix Immigration Salary List.
  • You must be paid a salary which equals or exceeds both a general salary threshold and the ‘going rate’ for the applicable SOC 2020 occupation code.
  • You must show that you are competent in the English language to at least CEFR Level B1 (equivalent to IELTS 4.0).
  • You must have enough money ( maintenance) to support yourself without relying on public funds. This requirement can also be met if the employer certify maintenance on Certificate of Sponsorship.
  • You must provide a valid Criminal record certificate, if required.
